in Proud Mommy Moments

It’s Thursday, which means it’s time for another Proud Mommy Moments!

For more info on what PMM is all about, see this post. Please make sure that if you’re linking up, you’re actually linking a Proud or Not-So-Proud Mommy moment (using the permalink. Not sure what a permalink is? Just ask me). Links not related to PMM will be deleted and deleting links makes me feel bad. Please don’t make me feel bad.

While reviewing all my PMM posts the other day, I realized that most of them revolve around Buddy, and while I’d love to rectify that problem for you today, I can’t. I have another great Proud Mommy Moment about Buddy to share with you today.

Last week, Buddy and I made Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins for a bake sale his class was holding as a fundraiser. Because I couldn’t send him on the bus with 3 dozen muffins, I decided to drive him to school and just go into work a little bit late.

When we entered his classroom to drop off the muffins, his teacher was already there. She asked Buddy if he had shared the good news with me (he hadn’t), so she started to tell me.

Apparently, Buddy was re-tested in reading at the beginning of last week and he moved from a Level E to a Level H! His teacher went on to tell me that according to their curriculum, 1st graders only need to reach a Level J by the end of the year to be on track. I have no doubt that Buddy will far surpass that expectation.

As a parent, I am soooo proud of him. And as a book lover, I am so excited that Buddy shares my love of reading.

We have conferences this evening, so “fingers crossed” that we hear more great things about him!

Okay! Now it’s your turn. Type out your Proud, or maybe not-so-Proud Mommy Moment and link it up! Don’t forget to check out Emmy’s Proud Mommy Moment as well! One last thing, PMM isn’t just for mom’s…anyone can link up!

YAY Buddy! What a great accomplishment. I’ve noticed a big change in my second grader this year. She’s always been on target, but she’s really taking off now!

It’s amazing how quickly they pick it up once they understand what it’s all about. He gets words that I never thought he’d get the first time he reads them.

Good luck on your conferences! How great that you have a “little reader.” My oldest is in 3rd grade and just now really starting to enjoy reading… it is so fun to watch her WANT to read a chapter book :)

Thanks! Me too. However, I already know that he rushes through his work, so I’m sure we’ll be talking about that.

I know. I really hope his love for books and reading continues. Books are such a great way to learn.

How awesome! It really is a big deal that a boy is reading above grade level, because a lot of time they can fall behind! We get reports on reading at the beginning of the year and Henry was reading on a 4th grade level and Grant was already on a 2nd grade level:) I’m sure you will hear nothing but wonderful things about him today!

I had forgotten the statistic about boys being more likely to be behind in reading. Thanks for the reminder. That makes me even prouder! Congrats to Henry and Grant too!

That is awesome! I’m so ready for reading to “click” with Big Girl. I’ve heard that it normally happens in first or second grade.

He just took off recently. We really didn’t even work on it that hard over the summer, but I think learning about the “rules” of the english language has helped tremendously.

That really is wonderful news, and I have no doubt that you’ll hear more of the same at conferences!

Congratulations. I used to teach first grade and it is the most awesome thing when the light comes on in their eyes! They can read!!!

The stuff he’s reading now just amazes me. He breaks down really long, hard words with ease…and silently. He used to sound them out to us, but now he does it in his head.

It really is. I never figured him for the good student. Shame on me for pre-judging, but he is really smart and is doing so well.
