The boys started school last week Wednesday. I know. It’s early. But they go to a year-round school, so they start earlier and have more frequent breaks throughout the year. Last year was the first year our school district offered the year-round schedule, and we were very pleased at how it worked out. Plus, the school is filled with dedicated teachers who believe in and understand the benefits of a shorter summer.
Needless to say, our summer FLEW by. Before I knew it, we were out of time and we hadn’t even gone school shopping yet. While we still haven’t done any clothes shopping, we did manage to purchase some school supplies.
Nick was in his glory. He’s been waiting to start school for years now. Each year when we would send Jack off on his first day, he would tell me how much he wanted to go to school. He finally got his wish.
The upside to have a crazy busy (and fun!) summer was that I didn’t dwell on the fact that “my baby” was starting kindergarten. It kind of snuck up on me and before I knew it, I was giving him a big kiss and hug and telling him to have a good day.
The boys have been in school for a week now, and so far, so good. Everyone is happy and enjoying things for now. And I’m just happy to be back on our normal schedule. Even though I work and the kids go to daycare all summer, the schedule just gets off each summer.
And now, some first day of school pictures. We were kind of in a rush, so the smiles aren’t the greatest, but at least I managed to snag some pictures!

And brothers. Who can’t smile nicely at the same time if their lives depended on it.
