It’s been over two months since I’ve done an update on Luke. I figured I would stop with the monthly updates when he turned one. A lot has happened since then though, and he’s 15 months old today.
First of all, he’s walking. Well, not just walking, but running, trying to jump, climbing stairs (and going down them), and walking backwards. He’s waving hello and goodbye, shakes his head no, and nods his head yes, throws a ball, and he’s starting to talk. He says, “No, no, no”, “hi”, “ball”, “uh oh”, what sounds like “up” and “more”, and of course, “mama” and “dada.” I swear he said, “Jack” last week, but I only heard it once, so I’m not going to claim it yet.
Second, he has 13 teeth already! He’s working on the 14th tooth, and I expect it to pop any day now. And I’m sure as soon as that one pops through, another will be right there waiting for its turn.
Third, baby boy is rocking the baby mullet. For some reason, he has a layer of hair in the back that is longer than the rest. I don’t want to cut it because it has an adorable curl (yay! He has curls!) to it right now, but if it gets much longer, I know I’m going to have to bite the bullet and take him for his first hair cut. Besides the mullet, he still doesn’t have much hair! His brothers had MUCH more hair at this age…with both of them already having their first haircut by now.
He’s a crazy thumb sucker, and when he gets tired, you know it. He’ll pop his thumb in his mouth (his left thumb) and grab the softest thing he can find to hold in his hands. He likes cloth diapers, but his favorite thing to hold is a flannel blanket that my friend’s mom made for him. I found him trying to pull it out between the slats of his crib the other night. It was too stinking cute.
Luke LOVES his big brothers. He adores them, and gets so excited to see them every morning when he gets up. He is over the moon when they take the time to play with him. His favorite game right now is chase. He squeals and belly laughs when they chase him. It makes my heart so happy to see them playing together and having fun.
While he’s doing all the cute stuff, he’s also developing some annoying habits. He will SCREAM if he doesn’t get his way, or if you take something away from him. He also makes the annoying “eh, eh, eh!” sounds when he wants something. And of course, it’s always with a whine. I know it’s early and I can’t really expect him to be talking, but I can’t wait until he can use his words instead of grunts and screams.
Unlike his brothers, this little guy has stranger anxiety and is pretty unsure of new situations. Jack and Nick used to go to anyone that would hold them. Luke clings to Jdaddy and me, and will cry if anyone tries to hold him before he gets comfortable with them/the situation. We went to Great Wolf Lodge last weekend and he spent the first day sucking his thumb and clinging to one of us. After the first day, he felt comfortable enough to enjoy himself, and by the time we left, he was having a ball.
The little man is trying to grow up so fast, and I need him to just slow down. Now, instead of just climbing up the stairs, he would prefer that I hold his hands so that he can take big steps and go up that way. His legs are still too short, so he has to lean way back to get his leg up high enough. It’s pretty comical.
In the words of the famous Paul Simon, “Slow down, you move too fast.” Mama wants these moments to last.
